Performing Solidarity

2020

Synopsis

During 2020, many words became performances of life boats amidst a roaring river of pain. In the wake of an economic crisis underscored by COVID 19 and state violence enacted by white supremacists against Black, brown and indigenous people in the US, corporations were quick to demonstrate sympathy with working class people and BIPOC people most impacted and threatened.

In the summer of 2020, amidst this moment of reckoning for Black lives and the COVID 19 pandemic, curator Dawne Langford invited artists to interrupt corporate “solidarity.”
